Is There Any Interior Design Game?

I am wondering about is there any interior design games available to play and neatly made? I have some answers for you.

Many years ago when we first started developing Interior Design Software all of our products where based on traditional 2D floor plan style programs.

The software we created allowed our users to create 2D line drawings of the footprint of a house as though you where looking from the top down inside like a dolls house both in black and white. A few years later thanks to the extraordinary improvements in low cost  computer gaming hardware we where able to develop interior design software based on 3D games technology.

This meant that rather than simply creating static 2D floor plan images we where able to create 3D design environments in which you could actually get in a walk around just like a 3D game !

Almost immediately we started to see a segment of our customers that where interested in our software not as an Professional Interior Design Tool but for the entertainment value in itself. These customers weren’t planning a house to live in they where designing houses using our software just for fun, this group of customers where not expected but looking back at where the games technology came from it should not have been much of a surprise that people would be interested as a Room Decor Game.

Fun

Although one might think of video games as primarily a diversion of action and destruction, there are many games where the goal is building, designing, and even decorating; allowing players to indulge in the act of making a house a home. Personally I find the act of designing  these virtual spaces fulfilling and entertaining... Here I give you some examples!

The Sims 3

Harvest Moon: Animal Parade

Design This Home

iOS: Free

Design This Home allows players to assume ownership of a virtual home (or many) with 6 possible floor plans to choose from, each possessing up to 9 rooms ready to be decorated to your heart's content. There are a myriad of wall and floor textures to choose from, as well as a selection of 700 furniture items to fill up the rooms. 

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Nintendo 3DS: $31.31

The most important part of the game is designing and keeping a home? Players are even scored by the decorative aesthetics of their virtual home, including how it functions, flows, and follows the rules of good feng shui!

Home Sweet Home

PC: $2.99

Home Sweet Homes has remained focused on the home decor aspect. Players are tasked with hearing how a homeowner wishes their space to look and finding the best way to meet their demands. 

Fable 3

As a virtual ruler, a player must make tough decisions for the good of their people, even designing the interiors of their many castles and cottages in period specific style. 

Home Design Story

iPad / iPhone: Free

Unlike most of the games on this list where interior design is an amusing bonus or side quest, Home Design Story for iOS is a game revolving specifically around the goal of home design. Players start off small, but as their designs truly take off, players are granted bigger spaces with more decorating options. Each room can be individually modified in an endless array of combinations, offering the possibility of either a "love it or list it" interior space.
